In general, any foreign body in contact with the skin can cause allergies. In jewelry, it is rather recommended to use non-allergenic materials such as silver or gold which are known for their passivity.

Brass is also widely used for its price and its workability, but since it contains copper, there are allergenic risks (but much less than for nickel which is prohibited in France for manufacture for cutaneous use). This is why it is common to cover it with a more or less thick layer of gold. This layer must be able to protect the skin.

However, over time, abrasion phenomena may occur and reduce the protective effect. It is recommended to take care of golden jewelry by not washing it with aggressive and / or abrasive products. Careful care allows this protection to be maintained for a long time. It is possible, subsequently, to renew the gilding process.

Silver or vermeil (silver gilded with fine gold) remain good compromises between price and low allergen risk.

The maintenance of jewelry can be described in a few simple actions, but to be practiced regularly and rigorously:

– Remember to remove them before the shower
– Avoid contact with chemicals, sharp or abrasive objects (risk of scratches)

For the rings:
– Remember to take them off when you wash your hands and when you do the dishes or cleaning

Jewelry cleaning:
– Wipe with a soft cloth to remove any residue of chemical or sweat
– Clean from time to time with soapy water and a soft cloth and immediately wipe the jewel
– Never use abrasive products (powders to clean silverware, for example)

I can do all kinds of repairs as long as I have the tools to do them. For example, I don’t do any crimping, so I won’t be able to make repairs of this sort.

For the moment, the room in which I find myself makes it difficult. I do not plan, in the near future, to open my workshop to trainees.

Not at the moment, for the same reasons that I am not taking interns at the moment.
